Description
Back in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Lincoln Square was known as San Juan Hill because it was home to African American, Afro-Caribbean and Puerto Rican residents and comprised one of the largest African American communities before World War I. Music and dance were a part of everyday life in this neighborhood, and as the Puerto Rican population grew in the 1940s and ’50s, Latin music and dance styles took hold. Celebrate the history and influence of Latin music and dance in San Juan Hill at this one-night-only Lincoln Center performance.
