Paris Refashioned, 1957–1968
This event has already occurred
Description
The decade between 1957 and 1968 proved to be one of the most revolutionary in fashion. And it all happened in Paris, naturally. The Museum at FIT explores this period’s shift in emphasis from haute couture to ready-to-wear fashions, thanks in part to the likes of Yves Saint Laurent—who became head of Christian Dior in 1957—Pierre Cardin and André Courrèges. These couture masters created more youthful, relaxed looks for everyday wear, which changed not only how people dressed but also how the haute couture industry operated.
