Melvin Edwards: Brighter Days

calendar_month

This event has already occurred

Description

For decades, Melvin Edwards has created sculpture addressing identity and cultural history, grounded by his belief in the civic, social and aesthetic value of public art. This first major survey of his works explores two motifs—the chain and rocking chair—that carry personal symbolism and reference African American culture. This is underscored by City Hall Park’s history as an African burial ground and the site of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence.
