This event has already occurred

Description

Before the Civil War and the creation of Central Park, the area from West 82nd to West 89th Street, known as Seneca Village, was the largest community of free African-American property owners. Once the park was being built, the land was seized through eminent domain and its residents were displaced. Through this tour, explore the Seneca Village Site and learn how residents lived and why this historic village was removed for the park's creation.
