Soulful Creatures: Animal Mummies in Ancient Egypt

Description

Among the treasures recovered from the ancient burial ground at Saqqara are more than four million individual ibis mummies. An adjacent dog cemetery contains more than seven million mummies and there are many more throughout Egypt. This exhibit, deawn from the museum's collection and featuring mummies from more than thirty different cemeteries, explores the religious purpose of these mummies and why there are so many.
