The Face of Dynasty: Royal Crests from Western Cameroon
This event has already occurred
Description
Although only a few pre-colonial tsesah crests survive, the genre is prominent in the story of sculpture from sub-Saharan Africa, where they were towering presences in matters of state. These four examples, created by Bamileke master sculptors of Western Cameroon as expressions of royal power, mark the first time that more than one tsesah has been displayed by an American museum.
