The Moors

Description

Jen Silverman’s clever production takes the conventions of Gothic literature and turns them inside out. In the play’s “bleak moors” (you can almost imagine the Bronte sisters’ approval of the setting), a new governess arrives to an estate filled with variations of stock characters from this recognizable strain of 19th-century novel. Silverman plays with these figures—and our expectations—subtly satirizing them with the care and knowledge of someone who genuinely loves the genre.
