Xaviera Simmons and BMike: For Freedoms Billboards

Xaviera Simmons work, Freedom Is Not Guaranteed, is a photograph from a series on the political landscape; its title, written on the piece, references the legacy of slavery and ongoing struggle for freedom. BMike’s We Are Our Ancestors' Wildest Dreams invokes a theme common in Black American writing and echoes the words of Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes. The installation, atop a building in Dumbo, can be seen from the street, as well as from the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges.
