Description
Alice Childress wrote this play, subtitled A Love/Hate Story in Black and White, at the peak of the civil rights era. Set in the Deep South during the Spanish Flu pandemic, it traces a couple’s navigation of family racism and anti-miscegenation laws. The play’s first New York City revival in 50 years is directed by Awoye Timpo, the founder of Classix, which focuses on the canon of Black theater.
