This event has already occurred
Description
Walt Whitman was one of America's first literary stars, known for celebrating New York City in his poetry. To observe his 200th birthday, the Brooklyn Public Library hosts a weekend of panels, talks, debates, lectures and even a beard contest at branches located throughout the borough. Special literary guests including Tina Chang, Vijay Seshadri, Harmony Holiday and Martin Espada will be in attendance, along with many more surprises; check the BPL website for details on specific events. This two-day mini festival will be co-presented by the Poetry Society of America.
