In our current moment of social upheaval and a renewed interest in civil rights, the 1960s offer an historical precedent. This multimedia exhibit features more than 125 items from the New York Public Library's permanent collection that give an overview of a period of experimentation, exploration and political protest. Among their treasures are Timothy Leary's papers on his LSD sessions, original pages from Jack Kerouac's defining Beat novel On the Road and a letter from iconic feminist Gloria Steinem to The New York Times. This free exhibit is one aspect of at NYPL branches around the City.
