In September 2021, more than 40 Broadway theaters reopened to the public after a long hiatus, bringing brand-new performances to the stage and welcoming back time-honored classics. On June 12, 2022, Broadway will look back at its 2021–2022 season for the 75th annual Tony Awards, which honor standout shows and the performers and creative teams that bring them to life.
Leading the nominations are A Strange Loop with 11 nominations, MJ with 10 nominations and The Lehman Trilogy with eight nominations.
There are six nominees for best musical, including A Strange Loop and MJ, the most in this category in several years, and five nominees for best play.
This year, viewers have the chance to participate in the official Tony Awards Challenge: an interactive ballot where fans can predict the winners in 26 categories for the opportunity to win a range of prizes. Visit tonyawardschallenge.com for more information and to enter.
Read on for the major-category nominees (shows whose titles are not linked have finished their Broadway run) and tune in June 12 to find out who will join past Tony winners including The Book of Mormon, Dear Evan Hansen, Hadestown, Hamilton, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and Moulin Rouge!
